Match Report
After the previous week's cup success the Wasps took on their first C&D JFL game, and a tough encounter it proved to be. The Chester Nomads team competed very well (and were seemingly stronger than last season). In particular they started very quickly, attacking with pace, and soon took a deserved early lead.
After recovering from the initial shock the Wasps recovered well though and clawed themselves back into the game with a good equaliser from Sam Jones. However the Nomads continued to push forward strongly and twice more in the first half they took a one goal lead, only to be pegged back on each occasion by another Wasps equaliser, the first from Matt Sheen (his sixth of the season) and the second from Robbie Foster on the stroke of half time, giving a 3-3 score line at the break following a frenetic first period.
Both teams played a lot more cagily in the second half, with both defences looking solid, and there proved to be no further goals in the game. Having composed themselves more after half-time, the Wasps probably had the majority of the second half possession and certainly had two or three really good chances in the last quarter of an hour to secure all three points. Given the way Nomads had started however the draw was probably a fair result overall, and it was confirmation that the League this year is likely to be more than a two horse race.
